Kudos to Dr. Marshall Posner, medical oncologist and physician scientist with TGH Cancer Institute | Cancer Center of South Florida, who recently co-authored a study in Oral Oncology showing how a liquid HPV-specific biomarker (a type of medical test) can help doctors better tailor treatment for people with advanced HPV-positive throat cancer during therapy.
The tool can help doctors determine when to safely reduce treatment to lessen side effects or when to increase treatment if the cancer is more aggressive. This game-changing approach not only has the potential to improve survival, but also to enhance patients’ quality of life. Researchers believe this tool should continue to be studied in future trials.
